Hunter is a 10-yr old purebred vizsla who came into rescue when his 2nd or 3rd home could no longer keep him and turned him into a WY shelter. He managed to catch a ride to Sue in Pinedale WY with some football fans returning from a game in Laramie. Sue found Hunter to be friendly with her other dogs, house broken and a pretty easy keep despite having some anxiety about being alone, which is not surprising given the several homes and then a short stay at the shelter. During his few weeks in WY he got his vaccines updated, had some skin tags removed and got his teeth cleaned and was ready to find a retirement home.
Jan 2012: Pam had recently lost her 10-yr old boy, Mason, to a tragic illness and was looking for a companion to her almost 16-yr old Simmie.... and to help heal her own heart by helping another vizsla in need. Hunter was that lucky dog. In early December he caught a ride to Utah, spent a couple nights with Rebecca in SLC before catching a ride to Reno with the wonderful folks from American Brittany Rescue (www.abr.org). Pam met him in Reno swept him away to his new life in the beautiful wine country of northern California. Except for an unexpected slip into the swimming pool (not many swimming pools in WY!), it didn't take Hunter long to make himself at home or for Simmie to accept her new brother. Thanks Pam for giving Hunter the retirement home of his dreams!
Dec 31, 2012: We received the sad news today that Hunter lost is friend and mentor, Simmie. We never have enough time with them but Simmie was just 5 weeks shy of her 17th birthday (Feb 6, 1996) and we know Pam & Hunter are both grateful for the wonderful years. Besides your buddy Mason, be sure to say 'hi' to Frank & the gang at The Bridge when you get there, Simmie.
Feb 2015: Rest in peace Hunter. You adapted really well to Northern California wine country after the first ten years of your life in Wyoming! You did really well right up until the end! We will miss you very much, and thank you Penny and Utah Idaho Vizsla rescue for arranging for him to join us here. Please visit Hunter at The Bridge.
