On Wed. 2/9/2000 I got a call about 2 Vizslas in the Salt Lake City shelter. When I arrived the male had been claimed by his owners but not Girlfriend - Amiga. She was horribly skinny, terrified of everything, had huge blisters on her feet that had to be cut and drained and she had to be spayed. She loves rubs but she has been abused, probably by a man, she is OK with Daryl only when he is sitting down next to her but if he reached for her she tried to bite. We had to force feed her as she refused all food. We took her to the vet for a full blood panel and Xrays as she was still not eating. She did eat a few dried liver treats and when we got home she also took a choc. chip cookies out of my hand (which I did not offer to her) while I was sitting in a chair -- and she was off to the races. She is now eating regular dog food with water and some tasty high calorie stuff and vitamins mixed in.

Amiga was adopted by Angela and Allen here in UT. They have a 5 month old male V and when she came to visit the house Amiga, Romeo, Damian and Cognac spent almost 2 hours in constant motion -- playing, chasing balls, and getting liver treats. Angela has her enrolled for obedience and socialization classes and she is really starting to settle in a become a member of the family. Amiga has also met the neighbors, friends and their dogs and gets along with them as well. Take care of our most precious girlfriend.

11/2000 update Compare the photo on this page with her new picture in the Photo Gallery to see how far Amiga has come. Several months after going to live with Angela and Allen, Amiga lost ALL of her fur and grew a whole new coat! She looks like a brand new dog and with a brand new life. Thank you Angela and Allen!!

3/2001 update After fostering her for 6 months, Angela and Allen decided to let themselves also be adopted by Quinn so Amiga and Cognac now have darling Quinn to remind them of what bad little doggies they are!

Apr 2009: We are sad to report Amiga lost her battle with bone cancer this month.... but happy at the same time for the great life Angela & Allen made for her.

Visit the Photo Gallery for photos of Amiga with her new family.
