Sophie is a 1-2 yr old german shorthaired pointer who was picked up as a stray. After waiting 3 weeks at animal control in Meridain ID for her owner to claim her IDAWG was contacted and set the ball in motion to get her into rescue. She has clearly been someone's pet and a house dog and we have no idea why no one came looking for this little sweetheart. She is excellent with other dogs and learning about cats in her foster home. She is crate trained, rides well in the car, not a barker and should be fine with people of all ages. Minor counter cruising seems to be her only behavior issue. She has not been evaluated for hunting.
In May Sophie found her forever home when Barbara, Ken, Rick and Fritz came up from Salt Lake City to meet her. We suspected they would find her as irresistable as we did and we were right. The whole family approved and little Ms Sophie was off to her new home with Fritz as a buddy and Rick to play ball with both of them.
Update Aug 2004: Fritz & Sophie got a new little brother when Mini also joined the family.
Dec 2016, Rebecca writes: The Calney family is much too quiet with the passing of Ms. Sophie. She was devoted to Kenny and ran the dog family so is missed by all humans and Fritz, Mini, and perhaps even Selena. My favorite memory of her is sitting atop Kenny and rocking to sleep in the "big chair". She was a bright girl who loved visitors, treats from the table and dish cleaning. She and Fritz patrolled the yard for birds and critters, leaping from rock to rock on the hill. We will miss you forever - Auntie Reb. Please visit Sophie at The Bridge.
