Rock Creek Reed aka Rocky came to rescue via the efforts of Dr. Fazio DVM. Rocky was born 4/28/1999 and was a member of a family who cared for him but could not afford the $2000 TPLO knee surgery he needed. The Vizsla Rescue Fund accepted him into their program and agreed to fund his surgery. In addition, Mandie, Russ, Lucky & Stout agreed to foster Rocky for the recovery time until his new family finds him. Rocky is having a great time attending daily doggie daycare at Lucky Dog Day Care.
Rocky is a very loveable dog who loves to sleep in the bed with his humans. He was raised with children and while we have not had him around toddlers, he is great with older kids. He is a very velcro dog and just adores quality attention. He gets along great with other dogs, great with cats, and loves car rides. He has good basic obedience skills and is a well behaved dog. He is crate trained. Rocky does not like to share food with other dogs so would be best fed separate or in his kennel. He does have some separation anxiety so a home where someone is home a lot would be best. He will need additional aftercare for his knee surgery but should recover fully. He will drink from the toilet, counter surf, and get into trash if he can. If you are looking for a wonderful, gentle dog who will return your love 100 fold, is Rocky the dog for you?
Mar 2006 update: Rocky got a clean bill of health from his doctors and has the okay to resume normal vizsla activities without restrictions.
June 2nd update from Audrey: Oh my goodness - what a sweet dog and he knows tricks too! Rocky is located in Eugene OR. Because of his high energy at times, we are looking for a home without children. He just turned 7 years old but you might not realize it! He is looking for someone who will love him as much as he loves them.
August 2006: Rocky found not only a great home but a great buddy in Massimo. The boys have been camping, on a road trip to Mt. Hood, to the ocean, and hiking in various spots. Rocky and Massimo also get to visit Auntie Mandie several days per week at Lucky Dog Day Care! His new mom says that he settled in quickly and has made himself familiar with all the fowl in the neighborhood. He visits a chicken coop adjacent to the park everyday and he could spend hours there just watching. On the other hand he is also the perfect city dog and likes to hang out on patios at cafes and restaurants. Kartz says, "Rocky is much loved and an excellent addition to our home." Take care of our very special boy who SO deserves his perfect home.
Nov 2013: Rocky was returned to his original foster and recovery home with Mandie when his owner of 7 years was no longer able to care for him due to her own serious illness. Rocky enjoyed almost two months being cared for by Mandie and her crew, including being bossed around by Susie and running in the fields with Lucky & Stout. Thank you Mandie for filling Rocky's final weeks with love and happiness and especially for being strong enough to let him go when he let you know his time had come. Run fast and pain free Rocky boy!
