LI'L DUDE

Dude and his 9-week old littermates were advertised "free to good home" in the newspaper. His dam was a Border Collie and his sire was the neighbor's unneutered Vizsla. The Lewis family in Kellogg ID had been on the waiting list for some time for a Vizsla but there had been no young dogs available. They preferred a puppy and puppies are rare in rescue. When Penny went to meet the one puppy from the litter who was still available she found him to be very Vizsla-like in personality but very black and with a white blaze on his chest. His coat was short, ears low and "hound-like" and his forehead was full of Vizsla wrinkles. A few pictures later and some Email messages back and forth and the Lewises decided this was going to be their puppy. Penny picked Li'l Dude up from the owner of the bitch and took him to the vet for his first round of shots and a well-puppy exam. Except for being a little behind the curve on his vaccinations he was a healthy and very well adjusted puppy. A few days later he caught a ride to Moscow ID with Keith, a co-worker of Penny's, who was headed north to visit his son and daughter-in-law in Moscow ID. Although Keith does not consider himself a "dog person", L'il Dude was in capable hands until the following morning when the Lewis family arrived to meet their newest family member in September 2000. Dude now has a 7-yr old Vizsla brother to show him the ropes and two human brothers to make sure he gets plenty of exercise.

Dec 2001 update: This was a special Christmas for Dude and the Lewis family as they also adopted Ninja.

Dec 2003 update: Dude and Ninja lost their friend and mentor this year when 9-yr old Xeno died suddenly from an unknown illness shortly before Christmas. May Xeno run and play with the others at the Bridge while he waits for his special friends to join him there.

Dec 2012: New pictures added of Dude, Ninja & their V buddy, Koot.
