ROSIE & her pups (Dec 2011)

Rosie was brought to a small town shelter in mid-November as a very pregnant stray. Lucky for Rosie, June with Idaho weimaraner rescue lives in the same town and wasted no time going to pick her up when the call came in. Having pups in this small city pound would not have been safe for Rosie or her babies and her vizsla impersonation was good enough we couldn't turn her away.

On Nov 27th Rosie whelped 16 pups. Rosie is still a baby herself at less than 2 years and is an absolute doll, a very sweet agreeable dog who loves kids. She is a great mother taking very good care of the pups. We do have several people interested in her when her maternal duties are completed. Rosie is likely a vizsla mix. We think there are multiple dads and our best guess is black lab, rottie/dobie, and possibly shepherd of some kind. We don't see any herding, hound or bully breeds in them. Seven are black, three are black & tan and six are tan with black masks, 5 males and 11 females. Tails are docked and dew claws removed. All 16 are healthy and active.

Jan 21, 2012 update: Rosie's pups are 8-wks old on Jan 22. They are all getting long silky ears and long snouts like pointers. The black pups all have either red or bluish highlights in their coat. The two black & tan girls have more of a blue cast to their coat than black. Only Scout stayed dark and is more black & tan than blue. The tan pups are getting more red in their coats and looking more like momma Rosie. They all appear to have well balanced conformation and good proportion (no long bodies, short legs, etc). Coats are still short and slick but it's too early to tell if any will have double coats. They will not have long coats and all are used to being held and cuddled and are couch/bed trained. They are learning to go towards the door to potty but are far from housebroken at barely 8 weeks old. Typical puppies, they will chew on anything available whether it be hands, shoes or kids toys. They have been handled a lot and have met people in their home but they have not been exposed to leashes or much outside of their immediate environment.

row 1 puppy A (RAGS - thankyou Karen L!) - Adopted row 1 puppy B (EMMA - thankyou Land H!) - Adopted
RAGS is a tan male aka Itty Bitty because he is the smallest still.... smallest in size but not in personality! Rags is getting more blonde/red and his mask is almost gone, tip of tail is black like it got dipped in a paint bucket, very curious and outgoing, "one tough little guy". EMMA is a black & tan female with an even temper and agreeable to most situations. Her coat color is turning more to a blue cast than black.

row 2 puppy A (MORGAN - thankyou Kim K!) - Adopted row 2 puppy B (SUZI - thankyou Anna & John S!) - Adopted
MORGAN is a dark tan female aka "Tiger". She has a sensitive tummy, very sweet pesonality. At 8 weeks she still has her darker mask & black bib, sweet & outgoing, loves to curl up & sleep with you. SUZI has a sensitive tummy. She is outgoing, loved photographer Claire & wanted attention, very willing to approach and looks for petting, has blue & red highlights in her black coat.

row 3 puppy A (ENZO - thankyou Rachel R!) - Adopted row 3 puppy B (SCOUT - thankyou Ida K!) - Adopted
ENZO is a black male with blue/red highlights in his coat. He is a lazy boy who didn't appreciate having his nap time interrupted by the photo shoot. SCOUT has kept his black & tan coloring and is darker than the girls with similar markings.

row 4 puppy A (PRECIOUS - thankyou Lisa C!) - Adopted row 4 puppy B (REILLY'S GIRL - thankyou Lu H!) - Adopted
PRECIOUS is a light tan female, likes to be cuddled and is a middle of the pack girl. She likes to get up on bed and curl up beside you to sleep. REILLY'S GIRL is a medium tan female, food oriented & into everything; long ears, active, likes food, likes action, reminds us of momma Rosie; Claire says she's CUTE!

row 5 puppy A (NUTMEG - thankyou Rita M!) - Adopted row 5 puppy B (GRACIE - thankyou Rachel R!) - Adopted
NUTMEG is the biggest of the tan girls and still has a black bib. She loves to cuddle and finds the photo shoot boring. GRACIE is a black female with a sensitive tummy and red highlights in her black coat. Like the others, her ears are growing long and silky.

row 6 puppy A (MOKI VELVET - thankyou Janet G & Lea K!) - Adopted row 6 puppy B (HUTTON - thankyou Rachel R!) - Adopted
MOKI VELVET is a black female with red highlights in her coat. She is a feisty smaller girl who was bottle fed early on to make sure she got her share. She has no trouble keeping up with the pack now. HUTTON is a black male. He is the vocal one of the bunch and screams to be picked up, talks a lot, wants to to tell you all about everything. He could be a lawyer when he grows up with his authoritative manner and on camera personality.

row 7 puppy A (SALLY ANNE - thankyou Julie W!) - Adopted row 7 puppy B (PORTHOS' SHADOW - thankyou Roxane L & Lea K!)
SALLY ANNE is a blue & tan female, not recommended for young children or a busy family as she hangs back and avoids commotion. Sally Anne is a little more reserved than the others and her coat is turning more to a blue cast than the original black. PORTHOS' SHADOW is a black male aka "Bear" with blue/red highlights in his coat. He is outgoing but laid back, loves people, is quiet but a real wiggle butt. He's got a nose on him and he follows wherever it takes him.

row 8 puppy A (TIGE - thankyou Holly M!) - Adopted row 8 puppy B (LAYLA - thankyou Cavelle K!) - Adopted
TIGE is a black female with blue & red highlights in her coat. She was a sleepy puppy during the photo shoot, has long ears and is the biggest of the black girls. LAYLA is a tan female who is losing the dark mask she was born with and getting more of a red/blonde tint in her coat and she smiles.
